At the start of the twentieth century, Leopold II decided to create a seven-hectare park dedicated to horticulture to complement Park Sobieski and the Colonial Garden.
The ornamental garden on the upper section was designed by landscape architect Elie Lainé.
In 1999 Brussels Environment, which manages the site on behalf of the Royal Trust, decided to bring the Jardins du Fleuriste back to life and to exploit its strategic position to create a public park for educational purposes, integrating it into its green network policy.
Today, the gardens are public and undergoing a veritable renaissance.
