The Unesco-Campus of the Atheneum in Koekelberg is a Dutch-language school located near the Koekelberg Basilica. This school has put environmental education at the heart of its institution.

BOGDAN & VAN BROECK (currently &bogdan) was responsible for the extension and conversion of the school while the surrounding landscape was envisioned in collaboration with LAND. The concept of biodiversity and rewilding was a key point of the project. In fact, they doubled the green area and planned autonomous, zero-intervention green circles, marked by permeable fences for flora and fauna, but not for humans. They also insisted that these rewilding zones be integrated into the school's didactic project. As a result, this fertile area is now used as a place for environmental education, managed by an ecoteam of enterprising, enthusiastic and increasingly knowledgeable students.

As Maarten Cuypers, a science teacher involved in the Nature Network garden project, puts it: ‘Live as much as possible in harmony with yourself and your environment. Look for allies and don’t wait for someone else to take action.’

Natagora is supporting the project on account of its environmentally responsible approach.
