An urban public park in the heart of the municipality of Anderlecht, the former Meir Park was renamed Astrid Park in honour of the Queen, who died in 1935. Witness to the municipality’s significant urban development in the interwar period, many beautiful Art Deco mansions were built in the surrounding streets. In 1926, famous landscape architect Jules Buyssens was commissioned to redevelop the park, which would soon span 15 hectares, although the work would not be completed until 1958. In recent years, the park has undergone a thorough restoration, led by landscape architects SKOPE.
