Ecology and urban ecosystems

The collection comprises more than 3,000 books: scientific works on the subject of the environment, ecology, the natural and earth sciences, and urban ecosystems; works on how to practice environmentalism on a day-to-day basis: gardening, healthy habitat, green walks, nature guidebooks, etc; the publications of Paul Duvigneaud in their entirety; offprints, dissertations and doctoral theses. It also includes some 50 journal titles, having belonged to Paul Duvigneaud as well as several current titles. 

A catalogue of the resources is available at the library. At present it is not available online. The CIVA staff is available to assist you in your research. 

The collection devoted to ecology and to urban ecosystems consists of the personal library of the biologist Paul Duvigneaud (1913-1991), a pioneer of scientific ecology and a Professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles. It completes the archives of P. Duvigneaud. Both are held at the CIVA. 

The copious documentation assembled by P. Duvigneaud has been available to the public, whether specialists or amateurs, since the foundation of the Paul Duvigneaud Centre in 1992. Over the years, the collection of books and journals has been expanded through purchases made thanks to grants bestowed by the Brussels-Capital Region (Ministry of the Environment) and by using the Foundation’s own funds. 

In 2016 the collection was incorporated within the CIVA in the Gardens, Landscapes & Urban Ecosystems collection.
