“If you never did you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.” —Dr Seuss
If according to Vitruvius an architect should focus on three central themes when preparing a design for a building: firmitas (strength), utilitas (functionality) and venustas (beauty), we add to this hilaritas (exhilaration).
GROSS. MAX.’s park projects explore the notion of exhilaration by magnifying and exaggerating the qualities of site to provide new pleasure gardens. Experiencing landscape is about being open to the unexpected and spontaneous; responding to motion, climate, nature; exploiting the human senses: responding to the proportions of space and the natural and cultural conditions of the site. The beauty of landscape is that each time it is fresh and unique and we try to create powerful experiences of unadorned honesty that allow the participant to indulge in the qualities of the place. Life is fun and should be celebrated.
