Architecture is a means to sustain memory, foster community, and build resilience in contexts of scarcity. Since 2018, AgwA and KU Leuven have been part of an interdisciplinary initiative to create spaces of memory for rural communities affected by the violence of the Salvadoran Civil War. In 2024, the Río Sumpul Massacre Memorial was completed. Today, new projects such as the El Higueral Memorial are beginning their fundraising efforts towards realization.
Join us for an exploration of these initiatives, in particular the El Higueral Memorial, now the subject of a crowdfunding campaign organized by KU Leuven. This initial support will help to bring this space to life, laying the groundwork for a larger institutional support. Donate here
