A Nourishing Courtyard by Marguerite Ferry

Here, the garden is located below the first storey, like most town houses in Brussels.

Visitors start by descending into the courtyard, which is lined with vegetable tubs and pots of flowers for cutting. Four steps then lead to the garden, where ash and cherry trees have made themselves at home.

The trees give the space the intimacy it needs, all the while creating a sense of undergrowth that is conducive to daydreaming.
