René Pechère Prize Laureates' conference

The 2021 and 2023 laureates of the Dutch-language Literary René Pechère Prize, which is awarded to outstanding works in the fields of garden art history and landscape architecture, invite you during this evening to become acquainted with worlds as varied as those of the gardeners of the princes and princesses of Orange between 1621 and 1732 and contemporary Belgian landscape architecture.

Dutch doctor of philosophy and garden historian Lenneke Berkhout will first illuminate the varied and sometimes totally unsuspected facets of the gardener's profession at the Court of Orange, as presented to readers in her inspiring book Hoveniers van Oranje. Functie, werk en positie 1621-1732.

Next, renowned Belgian landscape architect Chris Vermander will share his vision of the profession and provide a look at some of his most striking works, included in the winning book 2023: Landschappen, het onvoltooide.
