Research in Residence #1: Vincent Meessen

After / D'après / Na

Last weeks to visit the exhibition After / D’après / Na by artist Vincent Meessen. The exhibition inaugurates Research in Residence, CIVA’s new collection-based transdisciplinary research initiative. Research in Residence renegotiates the terrain between the hermetic sphere of the archives and their public exposure. The program supports innovative research in various forms: exhibitions, installations, podcasts, talks, essays, performances, and more.

Meessen’s exhibition After / D’après / Na integrates architecture into an environment shared between its various cohabitants, human and nonhuman alike. The exhibition weaves together two types of architecture that characterize La Garenne, a rural plot on the outskirts of Brussels: the Art Nouveau cottage, exemplified by a work by Léon Sneyers (of which diverse documents are conserved within the CIVA Collections), and the contemporary house, as articulated by OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen and their design on the same site.
