Take a dip in the aquatic world of Brussels. The yellow iris, the emblem of the Brussels Region, is a plant that grows mainly in marshes and wetlands. This shows just how important these areas are to the region’s DNA. Although the river Senne flows mostly underground, the region is still dotted with numerous rivers, ponds, marshes and wetlands. The ‘Moeraske’ (little marsh) takes pride of place on this bike tour. Situated on the edge of the railway line, this natural area combines wetlands and dry grassland, making it a remarkable refuge for numerous insects, butterflies and birds. Four hundred different plant species have been recorded on the site. It’s definitely worth making your way there by bike!
