In most buildings, the supporting structure is essentially useful and usually invisible. And yet structures are of primary importance in the process of creating an architectural project.

The jury found that the structural design is an integral part of the visual and conceptual identity of the nominated projects of the six invited offices. For these projects, the art of the engineer and the architect lies in finding the delicate balance between modesty and boldness. This results in a spatial quality that impacts the experience and use of interior and exterior spaces.

Véronique Patteeuw is an associate professor at the École Supérieure d’Architecture et de Paysage de Lille, editor of Oase and visiting professor at KU Leuven since 2019.

The Brussels Architecture Prize is an initiative of the Brussels-Capital Region that is implemented by Urban in co-production with A+ Architecture in Belgium. This conference is the fourth in a series of five conferences, produced in collaboration with CIVA.
