A multitude of practices and formats traditionally remain unseen prior to the opening of an exhibition. “Format,” part 1 of “Institution Building”, makes visible what is usually hidden: maintenance, installation, inventories, fire-escape routes, schedules, budgets, organigrams—understanding them as productive and creative tools for an institution in transformation.
